Preparing for the Year of Faith -- 2012-2013

Background:

The global Catholic Church will celebrate a Year of Faith  from October 11, 2012 till November 24, 2013.The upcoming Year of Faith will be an opportunity for every Catholic to turn toward Jesus Christ and rediscover and encounter him in the Sacraments, especially in the Eucharist.

In particular, during this Year of Faith, Catholics are asked to study and reflect on the Documents of Vatican II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith.
In his apostolic letter called Porta Fidei (Oct. 11, 2011), Pope Benedict XVI declared that the "Year of Faith" will begin on October 11, 2012 -- the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council  (Vatican II) and the twentieth anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. During the Year of Faith, Catholics will be asked to reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the text of the Catechism to deepen their knowledge of the faith.

The hope of the worldwide Church community is that all Catholics will experience, during the year of Faith, a conversion – a 'turning back' to Jesus and a renewed relationship with him.
